When I connect my X10 USB Video Capture adapter (model VA11A) to my PC, Windows says that is installing the Intel PC Camera Pro. Why? How do I fix this problem?

The Intel Camera and the X10 USB Video Capture adapter appear the same to Windows ME and XP. Because the Intel driver comes with Windows, it installs a driver for the Intel PC Camera Pro instead of the driver for your X10 VA11A. There are two options for solving this problem. Try this first:

1. Make sure the VA11A is connected to your PC.
2. Run the installer for your X10 program (or the X10 driver installer -- x10drivers.exe) and follow all instructions.
3. When installation has completed, restart Windows.
4. Using Windows Device Manger, verify that the driver has been installed properly.

Running the X10 installer with the VA11A connected should force Windows to use the X10 driver instead of the Intel driver. When you finish these steps, "X10 VA11A Video Capture" should be listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as well as under "Imaging Devices."

If the previous steps fail to install the X10 VA11A driver, try this:

1. Using Windows Device Manager, select the driver as loaded by Windows (Intel PC Cam Pro, Unknown Device, etc.) and select "Properties."
2. Select "Update Driver."
3. Choose "Display a list of known drivers."
4. Select the X10 VA11A driver and continue.
5. Finish the installation following all instructions provided by Windows Installation Wizard. Windows may provide a message indicating that driver "is not digitally signed" and ask whether or not you wish to continue with the installation. It is important that you select "Yes, continue with this installation".
6. If the Windows installer is unable to locate the appropriate driver files, you will be prompted with a message allowing you to "browse" to the appropriate destination folder. In this case, point the installer to Program Files\Common Files\X10\Driver Install\VA11A Video Capture and then click "OK". Windows will extract the necessary files, install those files, and update Device Manager.
7. Windows’ installer may indicate that new hardware for "WDM Audio Capture" has been found and ask if you wish to install, simply choose the default, or automatic selection and continue.

When I install (MultiView | WebView | PanTilt Pro | ShowTime) and connect the USB device, Windows tells me to insert a disk. What do I do?

When this dialog appears, click the "Browse" button. Go to your C: drive in the list and then "Program Files," "Common Files," "X10," "DriverInstall," and finally "VA11A Video Capture" (or "VT37A VGA Video Sender" if you are installing ShowTime). Click the OK button to use the driver files in that folder. Follow the steps as instructed after that.

When I installed (MultiView | WebView | PanTilt Pro | ShowTime) the USB device didn’t install correctly because I didn’t have a disk. How do I fix it?

To install the drivers again, this time successfully, make sure the USB Video Capture Adapter (model VA11A) or ShowTime Transmitter (model VT37A) is connected to a USB port on your PC, and then run your installer program or the X10 driver installer (x10drivers.exe). Running the installer while the device is connected will force Windows to recognize it and install the correct drivers. You should then be able to run your X10 software.
