I enter my order number to register the program, but it doesn't work. What do I do?
Why can't I register PanTilt Pro?

In the registration screen you need to enter your product registration code. For almost all users this will be your order number with a "-1" added to the end of it. Make sure you enter the whole order number, including extensions, if any, like "-AB123" and then the "-1". Also make sure you are using the order number for the order that PanTilt Pro was on.

How do I access my picture from another computer using PanTilt Pro?

When you run PanTilt Pro, it makes your video available to people with the correct ID Code and Password through the PanTilt Pro web service. To find your ID Code and change the password, click on the settings button in PanTilt Pro. Write down the ID code (a combination of 10 numbers and letters) to give to your remote users. You can change the password here as well.

To get the pictures from the remote computer, connect to the Internet, open your web browser and go to http://control.x10.com. The PanTilt Pro remote program will load. Enter the 10-digit ID and the password and click connect. You will connect to the server and should see live video in a couple seconds.

When I try to view video remotely, I get the message "Call Refused". What do I do?

There are a couple things that could cause this problem. First, make sure that Microsoft NetMeeting (used by PanTilt Pro to transmit video) is configured correctly. You can do this by making a NetMeeting call from the remote computer to the computer where PanTilt Pro is installed. If you can't successfully complete a call, check the NetMeeting settings on the "server" computer to make sure that NetMeeting is set to allow the computer to receive calls. If it isn't, change the settting and try again.

If NetMeeting doesn't work and the settings are correct on both ends, the problem is probably caused by a firewall or Network Address Translation (NAT) occurring somewhere in the connection between the remote and server computers. We are currently working on a solution for this problem. Unless you can change the way either or both of these technologies are working on your connection, you will not be able to use PanTilt Pro in this location for now.

Will PanTilt Pro work with my firewall or proxy server? How?

You can use PanTilt Pro with a firewall or proxy server, as long as the ports needed to communicate to remote users are open. Make sure ports 8080 through 8888 are open to bi-directional traffic. If you also use Network Address Translation (NAT) in your network, you may still have problems getting PanTilt Pro's data to and from your computer correctly. We are currently working on a solution for this problem. Unless you can change the way NAT is  working on your connection, you will not be able to use PanTilt Pro in this location for now.

Why can't I get an image in the PanTilt Pro window?

There are several factors that can affect this. The most important is the correct installation of the drivers for the X10 USB Video Capture Adapter (model VA11A).Check in the Windows Device Manager (Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Device Manager) under "Image Capture Devices." There should be a listing for X10 VA11A, and it should be working properly -- no exclamation mark, question mark or red "X" icons in from of the device listing. If this is the case, try disconnecting the USB Adapter, re-starting your computer and connecting the adapter before running PanTilt Pro. This should solve the problem.

If you don't have the correct lising in Device Manager, you should uninstall PanTilt Pro and then reinstall it. It's important that when the installation software prompts you to connect the USB Video Capture Adapter that you do so before pressing OK or next. When you connect the USB Adapter, a new window should open that installs the drivers. If it doesn't, and you've never used a USB device on your PC before, you should contact your PC's technical support for help in getting the USB ports working.

Important note for Windows 98 users: If Windows asks you to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM when loading the drivers for the X10 USB Video Capture Adapter, you must insert this disk for the installation to work. If you don't install the requested files, PanTilt Pro may not work. If you skipped files during installation, unplug the VA11A and reinstall the software.

Why does this happen?

Your wireless camera's antenna needs to be pointed in the general direction of the receiver for good reception. As the camera turns on the pan & tilt base, the antenna turns and the video signal may not be directed right at the receiver. This affects the quality of the picture on your TV or PC.

How do I fix it?

The best way to solve this problem is to orient the camera's antenna and the pan & tilt base in such a way as to minimize the antenna's movement away from the receiver. You can also adjust the position of the antenna on the receiver. One easy way to make the antenna position less affected by the movement of the base is to turn it so the transmitting side (the one with the 4 squares on it) is angled up and towards the receiver, rather than straight at the receiver. Position the antenna on the receiver in the same way. 

Here are some other things you can do to improve the reception of your camera:

  • Install the Video Receiver as far away from other electronic devices as possible.
    Note: This can be achieved by using longer audio/video cables between the Video Receiver and TV, VCR, PC, etc. 
  • Move the camera in question closer to the Video Receiver. 
  • Unplug other wireless equipment such as wireless intercoms, 2.4 GHz wireless network connections, and 2.4GHz wireless phones. 
  • Adjust the direction the antenna on the Video Receiver is pointing. 
  • Change the frequency by using the A,B,C,D Channel selector switch on the camera and receiver.

When I go to control.x10.com, I see the broken image icon and I can't access the PanTilt Pro controls. 

There are three possible reasons for this problem: 

1. You are not accessing control.x10.com from a computer running Windows. You must be using a Microsoft Windows computer and Internet Explorer in order to use control.x10.com.

2. You don't have ActiveX controls enabled in your web browser. ActiveX controls need to be enabled in order to access images through control.x10.com.

3. You don't have the rights on your computer to install or run the PanTilt Pro remote application. Even though it runs in your web browser, PanTilt Pro remote installs a small program on your computer. If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP your user login may not have permission to install the program. Make sure you have rights on your computer to install software.

VA11A, CM19A (or both) doesn't work when plugged into a USB hub. 

USB hubs that don't have their own power supply may not put out enough power for all the devices plugged into them to work. Unplug all the devices from the hub and add one at a time to see how each will work. If possible, plug the X10 USB device directly into the USB port on the computer and use your USB hub for all other devices. 

PanTilt won't start again after exiting and trying to restart the software. 

There are three applications/programs that run when PanTilt Pro is opened, and if you need to run the program again they must be cleared from memory. From Task Manager these are: 

· conf 
· rundll32 
· PanTilt Pro Application 

Either restart your computer before trying to run PanTilt again, or manually stop the above applications from running through Task Manager in your operating system.

I’m getting a green screen in Pan and Tilt Pro.

Close Pan and Tilt and Open up your Net Meeting software by itself. You will have to run through the setup procedure and once that is completed, you can close it and open the Pan and Tilt Pro software back up. Also, make sure that you have your receiver turned on and it is securely connected to your VA11A cable.
