Hey, this is Andy, X10 Veteran Web Designer. Here is my favorite X10 kit and how I use it...

I live in an apartment with several roommates who always seem to have visitors stop by whether anyone is home or not. I would always find little notes stuck to my door. Now I've attached my own note to the door that says “Greetings, you're on camera. Please leave a message”.

What I did was set up a color camera above my door with a Motion Sensor outside my door. I then connected an Audio/Video Receiver to my TV and a VCR Commander to my VCR. So now when anyone stops by, like friends, the landlord, or the mail man, when no one is home they can leave us a video voice mail that I can review when I get home.

With the Motion Sensor activating both my camera and my VCR at the same time, I only get several short video mails rather than wasting time and tape on useless video of the front door.

You get the tiny, color, wireless camera, the motion-activated VCR recording kit and the Audio/Video Receiver so you can see and hear everything your camera records. It's a complete, yet simple kit. What I really loved was that it only took me about 10 minutes to set up.

And, it really comes in handy for more than video voice messages. If I'm home, the motion-activated recording kit chimes, rather than records, so I get an audio alert when I have company. I then simply change channels on my TV to see who's knocking at the door before I answer, or to see if the mail has arrived or who's in my driveway.
