This page is useful for contractors that are new to X10 or established X10 Contractors that would like a basic guide to common billing models.

We have boths ends of the spectrum when it comes to pricing: some installers sell at their cost and charge for other services, and others roll product cost into their other fees for one flat price.

After polling our most successful installers, we've come up with 3 popular billing models and an average of $35 - $200 an hour, depending on the expertise required.

Remember that time, mileage, and other consultive fees can be included in your pricing schema.

T&M: Time and Materials

This method has been for used individuals, small companies as well as large companies. The individual or small company whose return on investment is not based on improving his process and thereby increase his cost to profit ratio. He will derive no direct icome from this but will greatly ease his mind. You have established his total cost, eased his mind, and just need to overcome his objections, and close the deal.

Flat Rate

Your customer may want the same services as the T&M customer, but they usually know wnat it is they want and how much they have to spend. They are going to expect you to be professional, have your info ready and garantee them that your solution is going to return their investment and perform as stated. You can always add additional specials and give some little extras away. This kind of model can be a challange where it may take two and three trips to their site to get the package settled.

Hybrid: T&M plus Flat Rate

Your customer may have a general idea of what he wants but doesn't always know exactly how to solve his problem or what he's gonna end up with then he's done. You want to help him out but never put yourself in a position where you end up not being able to provide what he needs.
