November 1998 July 27, 1998 my only child was paralyzed while playing Lacrosse in
a Men's league in Delaware, he was 21 and turned 22 in September while in rehabilitation.
Needless to say this catastrophic accident has changed our lives. Eric is a c-5/6 quad and
will only have the use of his wrists and will be in a wheelchair. At the present time he
does not have use of his hands or fingers and is concerned on how he will manage in our
home with the different appliances. After being hospitalized and in rehab since July 27 he
is scheduled to be discharged about one week before Christmas. Thanks to
"ActiveHome" and X10 we will have installed appliances, TV, VCR, stereo (which
he can't live with out.) Our Christmas tree, which is usually set up in our living room,
will be in his room. When he enters his new handicap accessible room for the first time,
the tree will light, his stereo (which will be playing Christmas music) will turn on, and
later the TV and lights will turn on all without his intervention. Then we will show him
how it all works without the use of his hands. Having the "ActiveHome"
technology from X10 will make his holidays brighter, because this product will allow my
son to be more independent. Christmas has always been joyous but this Christmas just for
him to be able to be independent in our home is the best Christmas present I can ever
receive and it is because of the "ActiveHome" product. --Marie Potts

Colonize Mars This is no (science) fiction: Our use for ActiveHome is to control a
robot explorer inside areas of lava tube caves where the passage is too small for humans.
As researchers for NASA and other space development groups, our long-term interest is in
using lava tubes on the moon and Mars to shelter bases and colonies (all equipped with
ActiveHome, of course...) X10 is helping us to create humanity's future home in space,
now! - Cheryl York

Protection from Intruders ActiveHome saved my life last night. I came home late and I noticed
my bedroom light on. I thought I had turned it off before I left. As I walked into the
kitchen a burglar surprised me and told me to put my hands up. Of course I did. He told me
to back up into the living room. My heart skipped a beat on my third step backward. As I
took my fourth step I said to him "I'm surprised you weren't attacked by my Great
Dane Hawkeye." All of a sudden there was a vicious dog barking behind the burglar,
the lights flashed and a siren sounded. The burglar dropped the jewelry he had taken from
my bedroom and ran out the kitchen door as fast as a jackrabbit being chased by a wolf.
What happened was your Hawkeye sensor started my "I'm away" program in my
computer as I backed into the living room. Thanks to the comprehensive features of and
additions to your ActiveHome kit I was safe and the burglar got away with nothing. --

Honor The Sabbath I am a Sabbath observant Jew. As part of my religion I am prohibited
from turning on and off electricity on the Sabbath or holidays. I have hooked up my
bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and even bathroom lights to the Active Home
system. Lights are programmed to go on and off as I plan on needing them. As the time of
year changes and needs in certain rooms vary, changing the program from the PC is simple.

Auto Parent I have used ActiveHome as a motion detector within my home. I no
longer wait up for my daughters when they come home from a date on the town with their boy
friends. I simply set my ActiveHome system to register motion on the living room area and
when motion is detected my stereo and living room lights come on. You should have seen the
look on my eldest daughter's face the first time that she tried to sneak in and got the
shock of her life. -- Guy Brown |

Domestic Tranquility As I work out of a home office I am constantly working. Or so my
wife would think. I have set up my ActiveHome and Hawkeye to alert me when my wife is
coming down to the office to check up on me. I have a light flash to give me plenty of
time to switch from playing my "Quake"(game) to real work. So far, so good. I am
sure many more useful ideas will come to me as time goes on. --Tom Cheek |
