Parents
need multiple sets of eyes
A friend of mine is a new parent and one of the questions I
asked him was whether he had bought a baby monitor. I told him
baby monitors are way low-tech and he and Mom should check out
the www.x10.com
Web page for ideas on how to not only hear what the baby was
doing, but also keep an eye on the child as well.
Long-time readers of this space know I really
like the products this company produces because they are
affordable and make my life easier. My entire home is X-10
equipped to control lighting, my son's television and computer,
etc. I also have several of the X-10 cameras that I use for
various tasks.
I told my friend that he could buy a couple
of cameras, with one located in the nursery and another with an
optional battery pack to be moved around. I also suggested
buying several receivers to put on various television sets in
the home. Also, if my friend has "picture-in-picture"
capabilities on his television, then it's possible to watch a
favorite program and the baby at the same time.
X-10 also has optional hardware/software that
will allow the pictures to be put on the Internet so he can keep
up with the baby while at work. Utilizing the optional battery
pack, the family can put one of the X-10 wireless cameras almost
anywhere if the baby is out of the crib. Batteries last about
four hours.
If you have older children, I recommend the
company's new wide-angle camera. That device, coupled with the
remote control "Ninja" camera mount, allows parents to
move the camera remotely to find their kids in the yard or
wherever.
