Instant
surveillance. This is Dave Ross with Chip Talk.
You've
seen those gizmos that let you control indoor lamps and fixtures
using a computer? They send a type of data called
X10 over the home's existing wiring so you don't need to snake
special control cables through the walls.
There
are X10 switches to control not just the lighting, but drapes,
appliances, ceiling fans - and NOW: security cameras.
X10
Wireless Technology, Inc. has a security camera that plugs into
the nearest wall outlet, and will beam a picture directly to a
receiver that plugs right into your computer's USB port.
It's
the XCam2, a unit that will fit in the palm of your hand, and
includes BOTH a tiny camera, and a hi-frequency transmitter that
will send the picture up to 100 feet, although figure on
50. It comes with a built-in directional antenna smaller
than a business card.
Add
in the optional remote control swivel, and up to three other
cameras, and you can turn your front door into a border
checkpoint.
Prices
start at $80 at www.x10.com, Or get the link at chiptalk.com.
