If you've never heard of X10, you probably don't surf the Web. The seemingly omnipresent spycam company has pop-under ads all over the place. One of X10's newest devices is the FloodCam, a self-mountable indoor/outdoor color camera with a built-in 2.4-GHz wireless transmitter, motion sensor, and dual floodlight lamp holders.

The built-in motion sensor activates both the camera and the floodlights (not included) to capture an unsuspecting moving object -- be it your neighbor's cat or a drunken Uncle Bob. You know those floodlights that flash on as you walk near a house? Imagine that and then add being watched.

The video signal is sent wirelessly using the same frequency as your cordless phone (Bluetooth, 802.11b, or your microwave) to a wireless video receiver. The signal is not always perfect -- expect some static -- but it works.

You can determine when you want the FloodCam to reset: Set it so that it responds only when it's very dark, or keep it on constantly. The $130 FloodCam Kit includes the camera, a wireless video receiver, and the VCR Commander II, a piece of hardware that activates your VCR whenever motion is sensed.
