X10's DVD Anywhere Helps Cut Wire Problem

Once you attached your new PC-based DVD player to your television, your first reaction might not have been "What a great picture" but "Great - another wire to trip over."

One solution comes in the form of X10's new DVD Anywhere, a wireless transmitter, receiver and universal remote controller in a bundle.

Once attached to a user's television and a PC's DVD-ROM drive, the $88 device promises to beam, via 2.4-gigahertz radio waves, high quality DVD images and stereo sound from the PC to the television. The obvious drawback to watching DVD films on computer monitors has been their relativley small screens.

Jeff Denenholz, a spokesman for X10 (x10.com), the Website that sell the Seattle-based X10 products, said the computer's DVD drive must have a video-out or RCA port so the device can be attached to it. Alternately, a video card, which is not included in the DVD Anywhere kit, may be added to the computer.

DVD Anywhere, however, does not live up to its name. Its range is limited to 100 feet.
