How2 - Doggie Cam
Terry Johnson always wondered what things would look like from the point of view of his Golden Retriever, Mindy. So with a little creativity, and a little ingenuity, he found a way to see her world the way she was seeing it. When we ran his story, we got many requests asking us how he did it, so we checked with him and found out. Turns out it was a rather simple process really. Heres what he did.
For this How2, youre going to need a patient dog, a harness, a bandanna, a collar, and the XCam2 and battery pack.
First you have to create a harness that will fit your dog. Terry used an "adjustable non-restrictive harness," which he purchased at a pet store. From there, he tied a leather strap around the top of the harness, and around the battery pack to hold it steady. He tells us that he could have bought a doggie backpack if he wanted, and were passing that on to you just in case.
Then he took a large bandanna, and cut a small hole in it, inserted the camera through it. After that, he took the bandanna and used it as a collar for Mindy by tying it "lightly" around her head. Then he ran another smaller strap from the bandanna down to the harness to keep the camera steady.
Now that he had that ready, he hooked up the Wireless Receiver into his VCR, put in a tape, and let Mindy go.
At first Mindy found the whole setup a little awkward, but she soon got used to it. And once she did, she forgot all about it and got to her business of being a dog. As Terry said, "I had no idea she was so busy,"
She did indeed have a busy schedule, which included chasing squirrels, sniffing the fence, and of course, cuddling with her master. Lets not forget the nap, on the sofa of course.
With this How2, you too can see your dogs life through his or her own eyes. After all, as the old saying goes, "Youll understand when you see me, and look through my eyes."
But most importantly, remember to be very careful how you set this up so that your dog wont experience any discomfort, save for wearing a silly-looking bandanna. At least its not a doggie sweater.
Thats it for todays How2. If you have anything you would like to see done, let us know, and well use your ideas for our next How2.
