How2 - Keep an Electronic Eye on the Kids
Being a parent can be a difficult thing. An understatement that causes most parents to chortle the minute they hear it. Its one of those tricks of nature. She gives all the energy to the kids, and takes it away from you as you get older. So keeping up with kids becomes exhausting at times. And the younger they are, the more energy they have. If theyre old enough to crawl or get around on their own, theyre old enough to find trouble. And find trouble they will. Most of the time that trouble is just basic annoyances, but sometimes it can be much more serious. At any rate, to protect them will take constant surveillance from the parents or guardians.
So in this How2, were going to show you how to set up a system that will help you keep track of the kids to help keep them out of trouble.
The easiest part of this setup is putting up some motion detectors. This will help you know which room your child is in when they wander from room to room.
Some rooms are okay for the kids to be in, so for these rooms, well hook up the motion sensors to lamps. That way when your kids enter the room, a lamp comes on, and youll know which room the kids are in.
To do this, set up the HawkEye Motion Sensor in every room that your children will have access to. For the best results, set it up near the door so that it can alert you the minute your child walks into the room.
Then plug the Lamp module into an AC outlet.
Plug your lamp into the Transceiver.
Make sure that you have all the modules set to the same House (letter) code.
Now as soon as your child walks into the room, the lamp will light up, and you know that Jr.s in the dining room, or in the playroom.
Some rooms are not so child friendly. One of the most dangerous places for the kids is the kitchen. Besides having lots of food and yummy treats, it also has some very deadly chemicals. Most kids cant distinguish the difference between the two. And they have a tendency to put anything they can touch into their mouths. The bathroom can also fit this bill, along with access to sinks and bathtubs and toilets where water can become an issue. Swimming pools are also in this category, and a much more obvious threat. For these rooms, you definitely want to know that youre kids have violated high security parameters. Heres a good place for the RoboDog. So when the child passes the parameter, RoboDog starts barking, and lets both you and the child know that this could be a little more serious.
For this, set up the HawkEye Motion Sensor in the kitchen or the bathroom, and hook up the EagleEye Motion Sensor near the pool or any other outdoor danger. Now, when the child enters the living room, you know its time to drop everything and get out to the pool, or into the kitchen.
Then plug the Transceiver module into an AC outlet.
Plug RoboDog into the Transceiver.
Make sure that you have all the modules set to the same House (letter) code.
Other rooms are iffy. In other words, if the kids are there, you just want to know about, but you dont necessarily need to be there, such as the dining room.
Set up the HawkEye Motion Sensor in those rooms, and here well use the remote chime.
Then plug the Transceiver module into an AC outlet.
Plug the Remote Chime into the Transceiver.
Make sure that you have all the modules set to the same House (letter) code.
When they go from the living room to the dining room, you know theyre traveling. When they leave the family room, you know theyve left. This will be one of those rare instances upon which as long as you dont hear anything, youll know that the kids are okay.
The best places to put up your motion sensors are at the top of the stairs, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, by the doors and windows, and near anything important or dangerous such as the stereo or a china cabinet. Outside youll want to lie out the EagleEye Motion Sensors around the yard near anything that may be dangerous. Set the EagleEye up at the front gate, at the back gate, and especially near swimming pools or ponds.
And remember, there is no substitute for constant vigilance when it comes to keeping children safe. This is just a way to help you watch.
