How2 Be Your Own Julia Child
Sharing recipes is a great way to learn about new cuisine, and to break out
of that same old meal routine. But recipes can be tricky. Some recipes require that the food be
prepared very specifically, or the layout be very precise. Recipes are nice, but its
always more fun to have someone model the recipe for us so that we can follow along. Sometimes
we try to follow along with the cooking shows on TV, but they can move along so fast that we
cant keep up. Well, heres a way to learn how to cook, and to be able to keep up at
the same time using our XCam2 WideEye, XCam2, and your ScanPower
Remote Control. Of course dont forget the TV and VCR.
So lets get started. The first thing you want to do is set up the XCam2 WideEye in a corner
of the kitchen where it can see the whole cooking area with the best clarity. Also make sure that
its safe from being splattered or knocked over, or buried under anything. Then where it
wont get splattered with grease, or sauce, or whatever special delectable you may be working
on at the moment, set up your XCam2 where it can get a closer look at what youre doing on
the stove. And be sure to keep your ScanPower Remote where you can reach it easily. Just remember
to wipe your hands before you touch the remote, as you dont want to smear anything on the
remote.
So heres what you do.
Hook up the wireless receiver to your VCR.
On the power supply of the XCam2 WideEye, set the address at A1.
On the power supply of the XCam2, set the address at A2.
You can use more cameras if you want, focusing the camera on anything you feel is necessary, for
instance, the "Pot Cam," or the "Oven Cam." Whatever you want to do, its
limited only by your imagination, and the amount of cameras at your disposal.
Now set up everything in the kitchen so youre ready to start cooking.
Hit record on your VCR, and off you go.
When youre showing the overall spread, you can use your XCam2 WideEye, and when you need
to "zoom" in for a closer look, then you can switch to the XCam2.
And its all as simple as hitting the buttons on your ScanPad.
Now if youre demonstrating how to create your special Strozzapreti with Tomato-Pancetta
Sauce, and it requires meticulous attention to the setup and detail, youre going to be able
to go through it step by step on your video. Just remember, some parts of the Strozzapreti are
usually underdone, while others are very soft. But of course you knew that, because youre
your own Julia Child.
And when its over, you have your own video show, with no editing. Now that you have your
creations on tape, you can make copies and send them out to your friends, or create your own video
library.
Thats it for todays How2. If you have anything you would like to see done, let us
know, and well use your ideas for our next How2.
