Detecting the Mail
It's the age-old scenario. We're expecting something in the mail. Either a letter from a friend or lover, a card, something we ordered over the Internet; or, as it is approaching April, that ever crucial tax refund check. The story goes like this; you go to the mailbox, and the mailman hasn't been by yet. So you wait for a little bit longer, and then check again. Still there is no mail. By now you're not sure if the mailman hasn't been by yet, or you simply didn't get anything.
Well, let's take all the guesswork out of it. With this How2, we'll show you how to set up an EagleEye Motion Sensor in your mailbox so that you will know for sure
when that ever elusive mailman arrives. For those of you with dogs, this may not
be a problem. If there's one thing that any dog can detect, it's the mailman. But
for the rest of you, here's your very own dog (so-to-speak). And the EagleEye
won't chase the mailman's car, or bark and scare the neighborhood.
The first thing you're going to need, of course is the EagleEye Motion Sensor
(MS14A). You'll also need a Transceiver Module (TM751), and a Lamp Module
(LM465) to act as you base receiver. If you want to use chimes to sound when
the mailman comes, then you will need the Remote Chime (SC546). We'll cover
both of these. The setup is very basic, and won't take long at all.
So we've got our equipment, let's get started.
- The first thing you'll need to do is pick an address on your EagleEye. The instructions for picking the address are inside the compartment that holds the batteries. (2 AAA batteries)
- Now you'll need to secure the EagleEye in the mailbox.
- Now you'll need to a Transceiver Module, to receive the signal from the
EagleEye.
- Once you've set the address on the EagleEye and the Transceiver, then
you'll need to set the same address on the Lamp Module.
- If you're using the Remote chime, then you will need to set the address on the Remote Chime, and plug that directly into the wall. From here, you're
done. When the mailbox opens, you will hear a chime to alert you that the
mailman has been by. But if you're using the Lamp Module, then you'll
need to continue to step six.
- Plug the Lamp Module into the wall socket you plan on using, and then
plug the lamp into the lamp module. Make sure that the lamp is on when
you plug it in or it won't work.
That's it. Now every time the EagleEye detects motion, it will turn your lamp on.
If you want to test it, simply go out and open up the mailbox.
Now when that tax return comes, you're set up so you'll know right away. You'll also know if somebody's getting into your mailbox that shouldn't be. This could also be very useful information as there has been a lot of that going on lately.
So get out there, and get your mailbox set up so you'll be the first to know when the mail arrives.
