Dear Dr. Dopolis,
I dont know what to do. Im a gadget maniac. Every chance
I get Ive got to get some new gadget on the market. I watch TV, and I see those ads for
new gadgets, and Im on the phone calling the 1-800 numbers before they can say,
"Wait... Theres more!" What do you think, am I a gadget addict?

Dear GA,
First of all, let me point out that as a doctor, Im very averse to people
who self-diagnose their own conditions. Theres a great danger in making up a diagnosis when
you dont have enough information at your disposal to make an informed diagnosis. Also, if you
call yourself an addict, its more than likely that you will behave as an addict. Therefore, I
prefer you use another label until youre more informed of your condition.
Now, as to your gadget dilemma. What I would encourage you to do is focus your
gadgets. Rather than having several remotes at one time, have one or two. Use the remote for
Entertainment Anywhere to activate the television and stereo
equipment in your house. Use the ActiveHome remotes to
control your lights and electronics.
Rather than buying all these lighting fixtures and such, use the ActiveHome lamp
modules. That way you can use whats already there, and make them much more fun.
The trick is, to use your interests for you. You like gadgets, but rather than
purchasing any old gadget, make sure that theyre gadgets that will work for you.
Save your money.
And remember, technology is your friend.
Dr. Dopolis.
