Carl was having problems with the kids leaving staircase lights on, but not turning them off. No matter how many times he would remind them, it continued to slip their mind. But Carl had a stroke of genius.

"When we were shopping for Christmas lights" Carl says, "I came across some rope lights. They were similar to the ones that you find in theaters." So Carl snatched them up. He bought an 18 foot rope, and set it down on his staircase. Then he connected it to his HawkEye Motion Sensor at the top of the staircase.

Now when anyone in the house goes up or down the stairs, the lights come on and their way is safely lit. And when there’s no movement, the lights go off. "The kids think it’s great" Carl says, "and they show all their friends. I like it because it lowers my electric bill."
