An X10 Candid
Christmas
Every year
as the Christmas season rolls around, we find ourselves caught up in a whirlwind of shopping and
buying and accelerating credit card bills. There are Christmas Cards to the relatives, presents to
be bought. Christmas parties to attend, presents to be bought. Office parties to attend, presents to
be bought. Christmas Trees to haul, presents to be bought. Relatives to visit, presents to be bought.
Children to calm, presents to be bought. Childrens ever growing and expanding Christmas lists...
you know the drill.
With all this frenetic activity, its sometimes easy to loose sight of what
Christmas is all about. The most important aspect of Christmas to X10 customer Drew Colby was family,
and capturing the excitement of Christmas day when the whole family was together. So he came up with
an ingenious solution. Drew wanted to get candid shots of his young children and the rest of the
family enjoying Christmas "naturally," without being self-conscious in front of the
camera.
Drew hooked up the XCam2 to the top of his tree,
and camouflaged it in an angel/tree ornament. Then on Christmas morning, when the family all got
together for the annual "opening of the presents," Drew quietly turned on the VCR, so that
every moment of that Christmas morning would be recorded.
And the most ingenious part of the whole process was that the whole time the family
was opening presents and showing off their gifts, none of them were aware that they were creating
great memories for the whole year.
Drew says he remembers fondly his last Christmas. "Imagine everybodys
surprise when my aunt called for everybody to get together for pictures, and I simply turned on the
VCR and played it all back for them. Thats what makes Christmas memorable."
There are many more ways you can use X10 technology for your family get-togethers.
