Hear Your TV & Stereo in Other Rooms
By J. Stuart Witzke |
Seeing the big screen TV in the kitchen was one thing, but being able to hear it without blasting the volume was another. So SoundPower was the obvious choice by utilizing a few bookshelf speakers on the top of the kitchen cabinets. It makes for great ambient sound, as it is reflected off the ceiling.
Although all the wires and speakers were hidden from view, I still had the problem of turning the receiver off and on. As I have been an X10 junkie for quite some time, I realized there was a simple solution: an AM-486 appliance module. I just plug the SoundPower receiver's power supply into the appliance module, then turn it off and on by any X10 controller. The volume level always is at a nice ambient level, so there is no need to keep the UR78A remote in the kitchen. So, I leave it in the great room to control the TV, DVD, and satellite. As an added bonus, I used an RCA Y-splitter for the inputs to the wireless transmitter so I can either listen to the CD or the TV in the kitchen.
Sincerely,
J. Stuart Witzke
P.S. I have a "spare" SoundPower receiver/speakers that I take around the house/yard/pool/patio for parties, cookouts, etc...but that's another story.

Editor's Note: The reason for turning off the receiver via remote is due to the fact that the receiver sits high on a shelf and cannot be easily reached to turn off by hand. If left on, static may come through.
