An Electronic Checklist
It happens every day.
The alarm goes off in plenty of time for us to get to work on time. And we, being the responsible
adults that we are, respond by hitting the snooze button. Just once, for a few more minutes of that
precious sleep we so desperately need. But after hitting the snooze twenty or so times, we realize
that theres barely enough time to get ourselves ready before we head for work. So we jump out
of bed, and rush through our morning routine. Then in our hurry, we forget to turn off the coffee pot,
turn off the lights, turn off the radio or television, or whatever were using that morning.
What can be frustrating is when it starts happening more often, and even though we
keep telling ourselves that it wont happen again... it does. There we are the next morning,
hitting that snooze button, only to jump out of bed barely in time to get to work.
Stephen Levitz had such a problem. "I dont know what it is," Stephen
said, "but I just cant seem to get up on time." And without fail, Stephen would forget
something. The coffee pot, the stereo or any number of appliances. So he created a "Leaving
the House" macro in ActiveHome.
"With the push of a button on the handy
SlimFire Remote, ActiveHome systematically handles all the
last minute tasks" Stephen reports. "The macro turns off the house lights, turns down
the heater, takes care of the coffee pot, and without me having to remember it all." Stephen
even has timers set that turn the lights back on shortly before he arrives home in the evening. And
just in case hes not sure that he got everything, he can go online and double check from work
using XRay Vision.
"Its a lot easier to remember to hit one switch then it is to run around
the house trying to make sure you took care of everything before you rush out the door."
So it seems that you really can add a few more Zs in the morning without
forgetting something because youre in a rush. But remember, ActiveHome wont remember
your purse or your briefcase. Youll have to leave that by the door so you have to trip over
it on the way out.
