Taking Care of
the Wildlife
Life in the country has its own challenges. One of them is wildlife.
Especially in the form of coyotes. Coyotes are scavengers, and they like to sneak into farms
at night and steal food and terrorize the livestock. How do you deal with a situation like that?
Well Michael Roberts found a way.
Michael lives on a farm with cats and dogs, and some livestock, so obviously
hes not going to be happy to see the coyotes. But its hard to be there twenty-four-seven
watching and waiting, so that when one comes into the yard you can scare it away. Its just
not practical. But hes found something that can be there twenty-four-seven, and will take
care of watching the yard for him.
Michael set up EagleEye Motion Sensors outside the entrance of his barn and the
house, each one connected to Dual Floodlight Outdoor Motion Monitors. That way when the coyotes
try to enter the barn at night, they trip the motion sensors and the spotlight comes on. This
frightens the coyotes, and they turn and run. And it also alerts the residents of the house
that something is out there, so that they know to be aware.
But what happens if they show up during the day? Well that contingency is
taken care of as well. Michael also hooked up an X10 Remote Chime to the motion sensors and
set it up so that it too would scare the coyotes. Fortunately the coyotes are easily scared.
"Its allowed us to get some sleep" Michael says. "Were
not constantly chasing away wildlife or worried about our own pets."
