If the Alarm
Wont Work
"ActiveHome system more than paid for itself, just from that one incident."
What do you do when you live to far away from your car or boat?
You set an alarm up, but if you cant hear it, what good does that do? It goes off
and annoys the neighbors. Theres really nothing they can do, and theyre only going to get frustrated. Especially if it happens to be three of four in the morning when
it goes off.
Kent Farnsworth had just such a dilemma, Kent lives on Lake Travis, just outside of Austin, Texas. His boat dock had been burglarized twice in the past, including a jet-ski being stolen. And since the dock was about 600 feet from the house, who was going to hear an alarm if they installed one?
Well Kent already owned an ActiveHome system, and he decided that he may as well go ahead and get another for his dock. He installed a motion sensor on a metal beam overlooking the boat area, and an RF receiver in a weatherproof plastic box. Then he installed the computer interface in the house near his other one, with a switch box to switch between the two.
Kent set the ActiveHome dock system up so that it ran several macros. The motion sensor macro he set to turn on all of the dock lights, all of his bedroom
lights, and the rear porch lights of the house at the same time. He also had a macro running from his keychain remote that he keep in the boat.
And amazingly, it paid off. One night the lights in the bedroom came on at about 3 am. Kent looked outside, and the dock lights were ON!! He saw two people
struggling to get back in their boat without being seen! Kent believes that he was about to be ripped off again.
"While I no longer own a jet ski, I still have a lot of money invested in equipment at the dock" Kent said. "In my opinion, the ActiveHome system more than paid for itself, just from that one incident."
