Is this Star Trek
or What?
"Computer, Living Room - Lights - 50%"
Weve all
wanted to walk up to our computers, the ones with the monitors the size of walls, and
interfaces that are touch/voice controlled and say something like "Computer, activate
the hyper drive, and show me last nights game scores. And Tea, Earl Grey."
Well, the idea certainly is captivating, but those days are a still a little bit out into
the future, but to a lesser degree, some of it can be done.
One X10 customer is making this concept a reality. Marc Pellegrino
downloaded a speech recognition package onto his computer with X10's ActiveHome, and then set up a laptop
with an extended range mic in the kitchen. Now when he comes home from work in the evening
he throws his stuff on the counter, and simply says, "Computer, Living
Room - Lights - 50%"
His laptop then sends a command to the lights in the living room, turning them on and
dimming them 50%. When it's warm inside, he can say "Computer, Living
Room - Fan On" and just like that the fan turns on providing a cool breeze!
"Oddly enough" Marc says, "The entire setup took just 20 minutes. And
with the X10 software and hardware, along with the voice recognition software, the
possibilities are endless."
