The Watering Camera
When drought restrictions means fines ... call in XCam2!
Its hot. Oh so hot. And that usually means drought.
Followed by water rationing and conservation. And usually the first thing that gets
restricted is watering the lawn. Which means that any homeowner must become frugal with
the sprinkler. Such is the case in Austin Texas this hot summer of 2000.
In Austin its a two hundred dollar fine for non-compliance to
the watering restrictions, which even includes the regulation that if your yard becomes
saturated so that water runs from your yard and down the street, you are violating the
watering restriction.
But Stevie Ray Webb has figured out a way to make sure that he can water his lawn, and
not end up owing the city of Austin a whopping fine for doing it. Its very simple
really. During the allocated watering time, Stevie sets the XCam2 on a measuring gauge, or as Stevie puts
it "a bowl," and when the bowl fills up, then its time to turn off the
sprinkler.
"During the allocated time I can water my lawn," Stevie says, "and go
into the house and watch my favorite videos. And then I can scan the status of my watering
at the same time."
Not only is XCam2 helping Stevie take care of his lawn, its also saving him a lot
of money from potential fines.
