DJ at radio station breaks ground with "interactive radio"
Every radio station does it. Theyre called live remote
broadcasts. Youve probably heard your favorite station broadcasting live from some
fair, or festival or other event in your city. Maybe theyre out promoting a club, or
downtown in the shopping mall. At any rate, its a time when you get to listen to a
lot of feedback and hear what other listeners are thinking.
So what if you could log on to the Internet, and see exactly what
the DJ is seeing while hes out there interacting with the listeners? Thats
what Smilin Jay from MIXX 96.1 FM in Olympia Washington wondered. Every so often Jay
and the gang like to pack up their equipment and head off into the great unwashed, wondering
about the city of Olympia interacting with their listeners live.
Jay thought it would be great fun to strap on the XCam2
with battery pack onto a hard-hat, and do his remotes that way. Now, while hes
out there, people all over the city can be there too, seeing what hes seeing thanks
to the XCam2. "It aint pretty" Jay said, "but it sure is
functional."
Listeners simply log on to the Internet from their computers, head over to the web page
of the radio station, and they can take part in the broadcast like never before. Now radio
has become interactive, and Smilin Jay is really smilin. Hes breaking
new ground in radio, and his listeners feel closer to their favorite DJ now more than
ever.
