Three O'clock Alarm Call
May 30, 2001 -
Most of us never even see three o'clock in the morning, unless for some reason we're up making a trip to the bathroom. Occasionally, we may be just getting in from that "meeting" we went to with some friends, but as we're "responsible" people, those "meetings" don't happen very often. Some people see that time of morning more often than they would like to, though.
For Jessica Mathers, three o'clock is her normal wake up call. Every day she rises at three am to get ready and be to work by five. That's an early day by anyone's standards. The rest of us would rather just be coming in, not just getting up. For most of us, we're still studying the insides of our eyelids.
As getting up is difficult for just about everybody, Jessica has had to rely on more than a little help. She gets lots of help from her good friends at X10, and ActiveHome. Just waking her up can be a challenge. "I could sleep through a tornado," Jessica told us. "And I hate alarm clocks," she continued. "They make me wake up all cranky." So Jessica has set up an alarm clock of another kind. Jessica has an ActiveHome alarm clock, one that wakes her gently, just a little at a time.
At exactly three o'clock, Jessica's stereo begins to play what she calls "fun music." Music that she loves to listen to and that makes her "happy." Then in another five minutes, her lights come on. At this point, Jessica should be up. But there's always that possibility that she may have slept through all of that, and so she's also built in a back-up plan. "At exactly 3:15," Jessica told us, "if I'm don't turn off the macro, then the lights and the stereo go off for just about one minute, and then they all suddenly come on together. That's what works for Jessica, and it's been very effective "alarm clock" for a very long time.
As with the rest of us, like it or not, morning is going to come. And that means that there's going to come a time to get up and get ready for work. Whether that's at three in the morning, or ten in the morning, of five in the evening, our body is still going to resist it. So why jar yourself into consciousness when ActiveHome would be glad to gently roust you from that slumberous reverie, and bring you peacefully into the realm of wakefulness. After all, a good night's sleep also depends upon waking quietly rather than being jarred into consciousness by an obnoxious alarm clock.
