Those Pesky
Pests!
Spring is upon us, and that means many things to many people. A young mans fancy
turns lightly to thoughts of love, the birds begin to sing, filling the air with their
love songs. New offspring are everywhere among natures wildlife. Flowers are
blooming and the trees are budding. Spring, its that wonderful romantic time of
year where poets muse, and lovers sing. But it also brings with it some other unwelcome
characters as well. Pollens, filling the air and making allergy sufferers everywhere
miserable. Re-runs on television, and mosquitoes. Insects of every kind seem to flourish
during the spring and summer months all across the country.
Tim LeBel lives in Michigan, and he says that the hot wet summers up there
tend to attract a lot of flying, jumping, biting insects, who especially like to congregate
near any type of burning light. They flock like insects to the porch lights, and if
theyre not restrained, they go for the house lights. They can be seen bouncing off
the screen door trying to get to the living room lights, or hanging out at the porch light
waiting for someone to walk past them so that they can have themselves a drink and a blood
bath.
The worst part is walking past the porch light where they all attack, and
then hang on for dear life waiting for you to drag them indoors. This is definitely not a
pretty picture, and it can be painful for whoever finds himself or herself the
reciprocator of the insects affection.
So Tim solved the problem buy using his ActiveHome products just a little differently. Rather
than turning on the porch light just before he arrived home as so many of our customers
do, he turned the porch light off instead. Thats right, just before he reached his
house he turned off all the lights. That would take away any motivation an enterprising
young insect might have regarding locating and finding dinner near a light bulb. "This
deters bugs from hovering near the doors and allows us a chance to get into the house
without all the unwanted guests," Tim said.
So Tim and his family can have the lights on while theyre away so
that any would-be prowler would think that theyre home, but as soon as it gets time
to enter the house, then off go the lights, away go the bugs, and the family can enter the
house without tracking in the other pests. This is a great solution to an old problem.
"Its too bad, though, that you couldnt come up with a way
to get rid of the insects all together," Tim laments.
We know what you mean, Tim. Just imagine how wonderful yard parties and
barbeques would be. And lets not forget the picnics. X10 would love to see our
customers go out on a picnic virtually unbothered by any sort of insect. Give us time;
were bound to find a way to work that one out.
