Watching Her Grow
It wasnt too long ago that in order to capture those special moments in life, you
had to walk around with a camcorder in your hand 24-7. In fact for many people,
thats still how they get their video. The problem with this setup is that
youre so busy recording the event to watch later; you never get to experience
the actual event in the first place. Its fun to listen to people talk about
their great experiences while they show you the video they shot, and then to realize
that they werent actually "technically" there. They were too busy trying
to catch it all on tape.
Randy and Roberta Johnson have a nine-month-old daughter, Beverly. As
with all young kids, her parents wanted to get as much of her growing up on tape as they
could. They wanted candid shots, but Beverly was a bit camera shy. As Randy told us,
"Our daughter, though very young, knows what a camera is for so she will not carry
on with her playing activities when she sees the camera or camcorder." He also
worried that "We miss so many of the precious pictures we want of her growing up
and playing, because she concentrates on the person with the camera." So its
time for XCam2 to the rescue.
Randy and Roberta took the XCam2 and stashed it in Beverlys room
behind some pictures, where it got a good view of the whole room. Beverly was completely
unaware of the camera, and went about her business without ever suspecting anything.
But Randy and Roberta got a payoff as well. They could take pictures of
their daughter playing, and them playing with her, and they were in the moment. They lived
the event; they didnt tape it and watch it later. This has been a great blessing for
the young parents. And its got them thinking ahead to Beverlys future.
"Were planning on monitoring her in other rooms as she gets older to be sure
she doesnt get into something that could harm her," Randy says.
This has been a great solution to getting candid video of their daughter.
But, Randy mentions another added bonus to having the XCam2 in his house. He tells us
"I personally like to catch my daughter and her mother playing together without them
knowing it." It seems that Roberta is a bit camera shy herself.
But thanks to X10, the Johnsons are living in the moment, not taping it
and watching it later. And Beverly is providing them with all the candid shots they can
handle. Just wait till she starts dating. Lets hope mom doesnt pull out all
the home videos too soon.
