Catch Me if You Can
So you're having problems in the neighborhood and you purchase an XCam2 to find out what's going on. That's what many of our customers do. But what do you do if someone keeps stealing the cameras? That's a tough one.
Anthony Love installed five XCam2s around his house, and last month had all five of them stolen. "Unfortunately," Anthony said, "I wasn't recording the pictures." So he took evasive action. Here's what he did, in his own words. "I purchased the XRay Vision adapter, two EagleEye motion sensors and installed five more X10 wireless color cameras."
Two days later, here comes the camera snatcher, riding his bike past Anthony's house. As he passed by, he set off the EagleEye. Then in an incredibly gutsy move, he walked right up to the house in broad daylight and grabbed one of the cameras by the camera's lens. "It went blank of course," Anthony said. Then the thief walked up to the second camera, and snatched that one too. This time he tore the camera off its base. Camera two went blank.
Now you're thinking that Anthony should have had a clear view of the thief, right? Well, apparently this guy was a professional because he managed to snatch the cameras without his face being seen. Here's Anthony again, telling us in his own words what happened.
"Well, my bandit was ready to destroy his third X10 camera. He climbed up on his bike and as he grabbed the camera lens my daughter shouted 'Hey' through the window. The bandit lost his balance and went tumbling to the ground." This time, camera three got a picture of his face before he and the ground collided. And that was too bad because according to Anthony, "The police in my town were looking for this guy. This adult male riding the bike had been paid by some felons across the street from my home to destroy my X10 cameras."
"I learned a lesson here that I should have known," Anthony continues. "Always install your cameras so they cannot be grabbed." So Anthony gets to take his computer down to the police station so they can make a positive identification.
Once again, crime is going down, and it's thanks to X10's cameras.
Editor's note: X10 recommends you place your cameras on the inside of windows facing outside, or elevated above 10 feet if you place them outside.
