Hide and Go Seek
Most of us have had pets at one time or another. The most popular are cats and dogs, but
birds are growing in popularity, along with reptiles, and other unique and exotic pets.
Some people have more than one pet, and more than one type of pet. Common combinations can
be something like two or three cats or dogs, birds, or whatever we find takes their fancy.
With all those extra critters running around the house, keeping track of them may be
difficult. Oddly enough, keeping track of them isnt as difficult as it may seem if
you have the right equipment. At least not according to Vince Wagner. He found a way to use
motion sensors to keep an eye on his
little zoo.
Vince and his family have pets. A lot of pets. Some of their pets are
theirs for keeps, and some of them are just passing through. "My kids love animals,
and sometimes its hard to say no when they bring home a stray whos hungry or
hurt." So the Wagner family has become a halfway house for orphaned and hurt
animals.
One problem there, is keeping up with natures offspring. If they get
out of their cage, or box, or whatever theyre being kept in, they can get lost in the
house. And a house can be a dangerous place to a bird or smaller animal especially. They
can get into the chemicals under the sink, get lost and starve to death, or end up dinner
for one of the other houseguests. So as you can see, keeping up with them is of utmost
consequence.
So Vince found a solution to keeping up with the animals. "I found
that motion sensors work with animals too," he says. "So I set up several motion
sensors near the cages of the animals, and if they get away, then a chime goes off and lets
me know that one of our guests is on the prowl." From there, Vince, his wife, or one
of the kids can round up the wandering critters, and make sure that theyre safely
returned to the comfort and safety of their "nest." "You have no idea how
difficult it can be to run a house full of kids, and animals," Vince tells us.
"Often times theres not too much difference between the two, and keeping up with
them is about all I can do. Thanks for the help X10."
Well, were always glad to help out when and where we can. Its
good to know that were doing our part to save the ecology.
