The Adventures of Taz
Pets are the perfect and most inexpensive way to stay in shape. They offer so much to the
families they live with. Recent statistics show that people who have pets go to the doctor
fewer times than those who dont. Pet owners have lower blood
pressure, fewer minor
health problems and a better psychological well-being. Having a pet may decrease heart
attack mortality by at least 3%. They provide preventative and therapeutic measures
against stress and they decrease the feelings of loneliness and isolation. Children
exposed to pets have a higher self-esteem, and more compassion toward their counterparts -
and the list goes on and on.
Stevie Ray Webb knows the blessings of having a pet. He has an Easter
Basset named Taz. Taz is the family watchdog and all around family superhero. And like any
proud parent, Stevie has a website devoted to their family friend and his many adventures.
"Taz has been known to howl at the moon." Stevie told us. So you see, Taz lives
a full and exciting life.
But like all superheros, Taz has a nemesis as well. Several of them
actually. Varmints who like to sneak into the back yard and steal his dinner. Usually, like
all bad guys, they wait for the cover of night when they can move about undetected in the
darkness.
However, Taz has a friend in Stevie, and Stevie has a friend in X10
Wireless. Stevie also has the gift of reasoning, and that opposable thumb that has been so
coveted by every other creature for centuries since we split from our ancestors. Armed
with these special powers, and for the sake of his canine friend, Stevie enlisted the help
of technology to help his canine friend conquer evil and save the back yard. He set up the
HawkEye Motion Sensor to turn on the backyard lights
the minute anything wandered into range. Then, to get a picture of whatever it was out
there, he set up the XCam2 for the video, and XRay Vision to upload pictures to his Webb mail so that
he could look in on his friend when he was at work. "I call it the Webb Critter
Catcher!" Stevie says.
On one particular night, as Taz was out making his rounds, checking the
yard keeping it safe for his family, the HawkEye Motion Sensor tripped the yard lights, and
notified him that he had company. Stevie was working on his computer when he heard
Tazs warnings, and could see the images on his computer of an opossum who had snuck
into the yard. But not to fear, Taz was on the job. He kept the creepy critter cornered
until Stevie could come out and "relocate the ugly critter to a better
habitat."
Steve tells us "Its been a blast experimenting with XRay Vision
for the last year, keeping an eye on my ActiveHome
through the Internet while at work." And he and mans best friend will always be
in touch. Now if only Taz could appreciate all this technology.
