A CatCam Star is
Born
Theres so much to remember before going on vacation. Did you get someone to come
over and look at the house? Do you have someone to water the plants? Feed the pets? Check
the mail? Have you notified your friends and family? Do they have phone numbers where they
can reach you if they need to? Did you make sure that there was someone at work to handle
your most important business while you were away? Have you made arrangements at the hotel
where you are staying? and the list goes on and on. Most of us know that it takes an extra
vacation just to recoup from our vacation.
Gerard Kelly and his family were going through just such a process. Only
his situation started to get a little sticky. It seems that the girls didnt want to
leave the cats home alone. Regardless of who the Kellys got to take care of them,
Gerards girls could not conceive of leaving their beloved pets in the hands of
someone who couldnt love them like the girls could. As Gerard said, "Our
vacation to Colorado was almost cancelled because my family did not want to leave the cats
home alone." But he adds, "ActiveHome came
to the rescue, and our vacation was saved."
Gerard convinced the girls that they could see the cats on the Internet
from Colorado. "I used the ActiveHome interface, a Motion Sensor, and a little Visual Basic
program, and we had my cats on the web." Its a new era for the Kellys as
CatCam is born.
"I used the motion detector to trigger an event that ran a Visual
Basic program that took a video snap and uploaded it to my net account." Thats
Programeese for "I used the motion detector and Visual Basic to take web shots and
upload it to my ISP (Internet Service Provider)." Its not as complicated as it
sounds. As a matter of fact, its very simple. And it had the desired effect. The
vacation was saved, the kids could look in on the cats anytime they wanted, and the Kellys
were able to go to Colorado.
And thanks to the pictures kitty has become an Internet star.
"Thats show business Babee," and ActiveHome is going to make you a star!
Wed also like to add, that many of the features that Gerard accomplished using Visual
Basic can be accomplished using the XRay Vision or MultiView software, and theres no
need to program.
