Team Go Green-Go - The Results Are In!
Today we’re following up on a story we wrote last September about X10 customer Mike Haney and his team’s entry in the "La Carrera Panamericana" road race. (Click here for previous story). Mike used two XCam Wired Color Video Cameras to document his team’s adventures in this long race, which starts in southern Mexico and ends 2100 miles to the north. And the results?
"The X10 Cameras worked great. We mounted two in the car, one pointing forward, one back. We were the envy of most of the teams!" Mike says. Apparently, fellow racers were amazed at how small our cameras are. They easily mounted to the car’s roll cage. An AC inverter was then used to power the VCR, which was mounted in the trunk to record the event. "We really could not be happier. The odd part is that we spent sooooo much time tweaking the car that we never even stopped to adjust the focus on the cameras."
Mike was able to get "tons of video" and is still at work editing it. However, we were able to get a few preview clips for those of you who are curious. Click here to see race footage from the driver's point of view or here for a spinout (you'll need the RealOne player to view these clips).
TEAM "GO GREEN-GO" COMES IN 4TH!!!
Mike is proud to report that his team came in 4th in their class (Historic-B), racing a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Roadster. However, he says, "We would have been 2nd in class but on day three we spunout on a mislabelled turn and came to a rest with two wheels hanging off of a 100 foot cliff!" Luckily they didn’t go over, but they did need a wrecker to pull them back on the road, as the frame was on the ground. Unfortunately, that incident set them back a good hour, which was "impossible to make up." A herd of cows and another spinout later, they arrived safe and sound in Nuevo Laredo, the ending point of the race.
It sounds like Mike and his team had a great adventure! They’re planning to do it again next year (actually, it will be later this year), and we can’t wait to hear what happens next. One thing is for sure - X10 will be there to cheer them on! Go Green Go!
