CAMERAS CONTROLLED BY MOTION SENSORS

CONTENTS

Introduction The following document covers the integration of HawkeEye (MS13A), EagleEye (MS14A), and ActiveEye (MS16A) Motion Sensors into an existing XCam system. It is assumed that an existing XCam system has already been configured and tested using a PalmPad remote or other controller. It is also assumed that the reader can properly configure the various Motion Sensors and is familiar with the features of all the equipment involved.

For instructions on configuring the Hawkeye, EagleEye, or ActiveEye Motion Sensors, click here.

For instructions on configuring a single XCam, click here, or for multiple XCams, click here.

Configuring Motion Sensors For Use With Cameras If you wish to activate a camera when a person walks into the area the camera is monitoring, do the following:

  1. Program the Motion Sensor to the same House/Unit code as the camera's Addressable Power Supply.

  2. Using the HOUSE/ON and UNIT/OFF buttons located in the Motion Sensor's battery compartment, verify the Motion Sensor's ability to activate and deactivate the camera.

  3. Mount the Motion Sensor such that it is monitoring the largest portion of the area. It is not mandatory that the Motion Detector be mounted near the camera so they are both facing the same direction. In fact, you should mount the Motion Sensor where the individual entering the area cuts across the Motion Detector's field of view as opposed to approaching it.

    Sensor Detection vs. Motion Direction

  4. Test the system by walking into the monitored area. Note: Remember that the Motion Sensor will not detect motion until 10 seconds after its last transmission. When you leave the area, you have to wait for the Motion Sensor to send the OFF command (depending on its No Motion Delay setting, followed by an additional 10 seconds to account for the delay after the last transmission. In lieu of waiting over a minute for the Motion Sensor to time out, after leaving the monitored area, use your remote to turn off the camera.

  5. Adjust the location of the Motion Sensor as necessary to achieve the best detection.

  6. Any additional cameras should be configured in the same way. The Unit codes should all be within the same Unit code group associated with the Addressable Power Supplies.
Behind The Scenes If you are a first time user of our Motion Sensors, a key point to remember is the Motion Sensors are essentially modified remote controls. Their method of activation is motion, rather than an ON/OFF button being pressed.

Due to the Unit code group feature associated with Addressable Power Supplies, the use of Motion Sensors with XCams is limited to 4 (set to Unit codes within the same Unit code group). The reason is more than four Motion Sensors controlling an equal number of cameras set to the same House code will not properly deactivate the cameras in every situation.

Example: Camera A5 is on. You trigger a Motion Sensor controlling camera A1. Camera A5 will not turn off because it is in a different Unit code group.

Note: If the MultiView software is used, this limitation does not apply because the software handles all of the ON and OFF commands.

Frequently Asked Questions Is it absolutely necessary that the Motion Sensor be set to the same House/Unit code as the camera?

No; however, additional equipment is required. If you own MultiView, the Motion Sensor triggers the MultiView software. It is the software which switches to the appropriate camera. If you have ActiveHome, you could configure a macro that, when triggered by the Motion Sensor, the camera is turned on (a Lamp Module could be activated, too). Another macro would be created to handle the OFF command from the same Motion Sensor.
