Unless you're an electrician, you're going to have a heck of a time installing the Insteon KeypadLinc Dimmer (#2486DWH6). Get out your drill, screwdrivers and wire strippers, shut off your power from the circuit breaker and get ready for some wiring. And oh yeah, you're going to need a neutral wire in the junction box. The only problem is that most people don't even have this! That means you're going to have to call an electrician to install the Insteon switch for you. If you've ever had to call an electrician before, you know that they don't come cheap. Oh, there's one more option! You can use an X10 wireless switch instead! Peel off the back and stick the switch to any surface in your house - a wall, fridge door, nightstand, tabletop - anywhere you want. In fact, you don't even have to stick it at all if you don't want. Use it as a wireless, handheld remote and take it anywhere in the house. When comparing the Insteon KeypadLinc Dimmer (#2486DWH6) to the X10 switch, it's not even close! Insteon will likely take you close to an hour to set up while ours only takes a minute!
The great thing about our switch is that it comes pre-programmed to a house code (you can always easily change it if you desire). That means it is ready to use right out of the box. With the Insteon KeypadLinc Dimmer (#2486DWH6), you have to program what you want to control. Hold the button you want to program for 10 seconds until the lights blink. You then have a four-minute time limit to complete the rest of the process, or you will have to do it all over again. Go to the Insteon module you want to control and hold the button on the module you want to control for a few seconds until the light flashes. You have to do this for each Insteon module you want to control. It can be a bit much for the home automation beginner.
With the Insteon KeypadLinc Dimmer (#2486DWH6), you have to first touch the button for the corresponding light you want to control, then press on or off. Doesn't sound like too much trouble, right? However, if you're in the dark, finding the two different buttons can be a little tricky. That's why they make standard light switches with just one switch - nice and easy to navigate and use. With the X10 switch, you have one-touch control. It is designed with a dual-button for each light you want to control. Push it to the left to turn on and push it to the right to turn off. It's super simple and easy to use and navigate even in the dark! Like the Insteon switch, it also has dimming control. |
