With ours, plug it into the wall, plug in the lamp or appliance and you're done!
With the Insteon ApplianceLinc Relay (#2456S3), plug the module into the wall. Then you have to choose how you want to control the module and program the controller. That entails holding down a button for 10 seconds until the LED light blinks. Once you've done that, you have a have a four minutes to complete the rest of the process or you will have to do it all over again. Go back to the ApplianceLinc Module and hold the side button down for three seconds until you get a blinking LED light. Now check everything to make sure you've followed the steps correctly. Hopefully you did, because you wouldn't want to have to do it all over again. One more annoying detail...
With the Insteon ApplianceLinc Relay, you have to program each individual controller to control the ApplianceLinc. With X10, all controllers are ready to control the Appliance Module right out of the box!
