When you use X10 products you can turn lights on and off by remote control from anywhere inside or outside your home. You can time lights and appliances to turn on and off automatically. This means the system can deter intruders by making your home look and sound lived in whether or not you are there. You can wake up to stereo or TV news, light up your bedroom, hallway, bathroom, start the coffee, start your central heating or air conditioning, and all before you're out of bed. At night the system can lower the heat, play music or your favorite late night TV show for as long as you set it; and then turn the lights off automatically.

To learn more about how you can use X10 follow the day of our pal, Joe Automation. The following applications may require either the Lamp Module or Appliance Module and the referred to controller.

6:00 AM: Joe's radio turns on to wake him up. The radio is controlled by a Mini Timer that automatically turns on the bedroom light and turns on the radio. The temperature in the room is 65 degrees thanks to his Thermostat Set-Back control that started to warm the room 15 minutes before Joe woke up.
6:30 AM: After a relaxing shower, Joe stumbles into the kitchen and has a freshly brewed coffee waiting for him. The TV is turned on to the morning news. Joe programmed his computer using ActiveHome to start the coffee machine when he started the shower and to turn on the TV as he exited the shower. Using his UltimateREMOTE, Joe changes the station on the TV, starts the toaster oven, and turns on the kitchen lamps and kitchen fan. (Joe threw away all his spare remotes a few months ago because his UltimateREMOTE can control all of his TV's, VCR's, etc.)

7:00 AM: After a very relaxing breakfast Joe is ready for work. He pushes the Wireless Wall Switch (easy set-up and no running wires through the walls) and the garage door door opens and the lights to his home turn off. He activates his monitored security system to protect his home from burglars. Joe's security system utilizes 7 wireless door/window sensors and a motion detector in the living room. If anyone tries to break in the main console activates a power siren, flashes the lights, and calls ORCA Monitoring, which can dispatch the police.
1:00 PM: Joe receives a phone call from a friend who needs to borrow some CD's at his home. So, Joe disarms his house by dialing the security system. He then uses the Telephone Responder to turn on some lights and music for his friends arrival. Needless to say, Joe's friend is very impressed.
6:00 PM: Joe pulls in the driveway and uses his keychain remote control to activate his ActiveHome "Coming Home Macro", which opens the garage door, turns on the garage light, starts the sprinkler in the backyard, turns on the heater, and turns on the living room lights.
6:30 PM: Joe turns on the computer and his 50" Big screen TV. Then using Big Picture, he checks his e-mail and surfs the Internet using his TV. He then plays his favorite flight simulation PC-based game on the TV. The stereo sound on the TV really "rocks."
6:45 PM: Unfortunately Joe's wife, Stacy, wants to watch a movie using the VCR hooked into the Big Screen TV. Avoiding any conflict, she uses VideoSENDER to transmit the video to the TV in the bedroom.
6:48 PM: As she walks into the bedroom, the lights come on automatically thanks to the ActiveHome Motion Sensor.
7:30 PM: Stacy hears something outside the bedroom. Is someone trying to break in? She hits her remote control and turns on ReX10. Suddenly, the ferocious barking of 150 pound Rottweiler sounds off in the garage. Whatever was out there runs off!

8:30 PM: Joe, sensing the need to reassure Stacy comes upstairs and starts his ActiveHome "Romance Macro." Details about this Macro are private to Joe and Stacy.
10:00 PM: It time for bed so Joe arms his monitored security system arms and uses his UltimateREMOTE to start his ActiveHome "Going to Bed Macro", which turns off his entertainment center, turns on the hall lights dimmed to 50%, turns on bathroom lights dimmed to 30%, and turns on the bedside fan. 15 minutes later the lights slowly start to dim until they're off. Joe and Stacy sleep in peace!
